About the Blueprint
The Blueprint for Upskilling the Homebuilding Workforce was carried out by Building Talent Foundation with guidance from Leading Builders of America and support from Weyerhaeuser. The study identifies high-value skills, innovative training strategies, and collaborative efforts needed to help homes be built faster, better, and safer.
The research gives builders, employers, manufacturers, educators, and workforce partners a clearer view of the skills that matter most across major trade categories.
Why It Matters Now
Residential construction needs more than awareness of the skilled labor challenge. It needs stronger alignment between training, employer demand, and the skills required on today’s jobsites.
As new technologies, products, and building practices continue to change the industry, the workforce must keep pace. The Blueprint gives the industry a practical framework for identifying high-value skills and building training strategies around real jobsite needs.
