Building Talent Foundation Releases 2021 Impact Review Reporting Progress Toward Building a Sustainable Residential Construction Workforce

The Review Demonstrates How the Non-Profit Organization Connected 436 Qualified Job Seekers with Employers in 2021 and Projects 10,000 Job-Ready Candidates in the Next Year

(Washington, DC) November 17, 2021 — Non-profit organization Building Talent Foundation (BTF) has released its first Annual Impact Review highlighting the foundation’s progress toward building a sustainable residential construction workforce by 2030.

"Established by the Leading Builders of America companies, Building Talent Foundation is working to solve the acute and persistent talent shortage in construction, while connecting young people and career changers with meaningful employment opportunities," said Sheryl Palmer, Chairman of BTF’s Board and Chairman and CEO of Taylor Morrison. “I’m excited to share this review, which illustrates how the foundation changes lives.”

BTF collaborates with builders, trade partners, manufacturers, foundations, and educational partners to enhance people's lives by connecting them with job skills training and career opportunities. Ultimately, BTF projects these connections will result in 10,000 job-ready candidates in the construction sector in the next year.

As part of its effort to connect candidates with employers and training programs, BTF led 387 events during 2021, including hiring and career events, job fairs, and presentations. Through these events, BTF engaged 185 employers, connecting them with qualified, pre-screened candidates.

In March, BTF launched the online job platform JobsToBuild.com to connect job seekers with career coaches and industry employers. In November, the site surpassed 1,100 registered candidates. As the number of job seekers and employers on the platform grows, so do the features on the site. To help job candidates discover more about various skilled trades jobs and where to go to learn required skills, BTF recently added career exploration and job skills training resources for registered JobsToBuild users.

To date, BTF has placed 436 qualified candidates with employers. Notably, people of color represent 78.9% of placements, while the national average is 30.6%. Women comprise 5.7% of the placements, with the national average at 3.1%.

“The talent shortage has haunted the residential construction industry for several years. BTF aims to change that,” said Branka Minic, CEO of BTF. “As we advance, we will bring BTF programs to new markets, scale up existing initiatives, and deepen the connections between BTF partners – those who build homes and need talented people, and those who build skills in youth and adults.”
